2010 Pine Valley Days

Celebrating 40 Years
of Fun in the Back Country!

Pine Valley Days Needs Your Help!

This year will be the 40th annual Pine Valley Days celebration. We know that many look forward to this event each year, but we have found that most do not know the main purpose of Pine Valley Days. When asked, most would reply that Pine Valley Days is an event that brings the community of Pine Valley and our neighboring communities together for a weekend of fun, food and friendship. While it does bring all of that about, the primary reason that Pine Valley Days is put on by the Mountain Empire Men’s Club is to raise funds for their philanthropic causes.  After paying all the expenses of producing the event, the MEMC uses the remaining proceeds to benefit the back country in many ways. While college scholarships remain our largest gifts, the MEMC also provides the community with such things as the Santa House, Holiday Senior Dinner, and grants to several Mountain Empire area educational and sports programs.

In years past, the proceeds from Pine Valley Days generated enough income to allow the MEMC to award ten $1000.00 scholarships to backcountry high school seniors each year. However last year we were not able to continue that level of giving because proceeds from recent Pine Valley Days have been drastically less, due to the loss of the rodeo events and increased expenses. It is becoming more difficult to justify the many months of planning and numerous hours of time donated by MEMC members when those efforts are yielding a small fraction of the income generated by previous Pine Valley Days. So the question arose at our last meeting: Do we continue on with Pine Valley Days?

The answer was…..YES! Because the Mountain Empire Men’s Club is from the community and for the community, and since Pine Valley Days is such a wonderful tradition for the community, we have to give it at least one more try - especially with this year being the 40th.

But we need YOUR HELP. Although in past years businesses such as the Pine Valley Store and Major’s Diner have generously supported Pine Valley Days with donations of goods and services, we need more monetary and community support from individuals, companies and any other group or organizations. Your financial help can go a long way in keeping the Pine Valley Days tradition alive and well. We would also appreciate any time that you could donate.

If you would like to help keep this wonderful back country festival and parade alive, and support your backcountry neighbors, please contact MEMC president Andrew Oberreuter at 619-473-1057 or email us at mountainempiremc@hotmail.com.
